Organ Dedication on Staten Island

I had the wonderful opportunity to dedicate a new 3-manual Allen organ at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church on Staten Island on Thursday, July 12. The recital was part of a surprise celebration for their pastor, Monsignor James J. Dorney, on the occasion of his 80th birthday. The church is an architectural and acoustical gem, with beautiful stained glass, stations of the cross, and a 5+ second reverb.

The program was divided between an hour’s worth of prelude and an extended postlude. The selections were:

Prelude

Dawning — Carson Cooman
Piéce héroïque — César Franck
Recit de tierce en taille — Nicolas de Grigny
Dialogue sur les grands jeux — Nicolas de Grigny
Adagio for Strings — Samuel Barber
Air on the G string — J.S. Bach
The peace may be exchanged — Dan Locklair
Prelude and Fugue in D Major — J.S. Bach

Postlude

Toccata, from Symphony no. 5 — Charles-Marie Widor
Fanfare — Jacques Lemmens
